For the week of Sept. 10-16

Sept. 16, 1972: It was a forgettable debut for an unforgettable player. Ohio State beat Iowa 21-0. Randy Keith and Champ Henson were the teamıs leading rushers. But with freshman now eligible, coach Woody Hayes decided to use Archie Griffin late in the game. He was in for one play. He muffed a pitchout play, resulting in a five-yard loss. Only two weeks later vs. North Carolina would the legend begin.

Sept. 16, 1978: Two coaching legends met at Ohio Stadium as Joe Paternoıs Nittany Lions visited in what turned out to be Woody Hayesı last season. The big question for OSU entering the game was who would be the quarterback. Rod Gerald returned, but Ohio high school legend Art Schlichter was a freshman. Schlichter got the call, going 12 of 26 for 182 yards. But it wasnıt enough as Penn State won 19-0.

Sept. 14, 1985: In the first night game in Ohio Stadium history, the Buckeyes beat Pittsburgh 10-7. Ohio State played without running back Keith Byars, who broke a bone in his foot 12 days earlier.

Sept. 10, 1988: The John Cooper era started with a 26-9 win over Syracuse. The team did not commit a penalty or a turnover. Pat OıMorrow kicked four field goals.

Sept. 12, 1992: In the first game against an Ohio opponent in 58 years, OSU beat Bowling Green 17-6. The Falcons outgained the Buckeyes 277-237, but they had four interceptions and two fumbles.
