The greatest victory in Ohio State history was the capper of the
programs last perfect season. No. 2-ranked USC took a 10-0
lead in the second quarter when Heisman Trophy winner O.J. Simpson
roared 80 yards on a sweep to the left, cut back across the field
and outraced the Buckeye defense.
But OSU, led by its super sophomore class, fought back to tie the
game at 10 just before the half.
The games momentum shifted for good in the second half as
USC suffered three costly fumbles and the Bucks took advantage.
Quarterback Rex Kern was the games MVP after completing 9-of-15
passes for 101 yards and two scores and running for 35 yards.
Simpson finished with 171 yards on 28 carries and a touchdown.
This Ohio State squad later was voted the college football team
of the decade.
