Daniel Weavers 42-yard field goal as time expired just crawled
over the crossbar to give No. 14 South Carolina a 31-28 win over
No. 22 Ohio State. It was the Gamecocks second straight Outback
win over Ohio State, and spoiled Jim Tressels bowl game debut.
The Buckeyes overcame a 28-0 deficit midway through the third quarter
as senior quarterback Steve Bellisari, playing for the first time
since his November arrest and suspension on drunken driving charges,
led a furious comeback. Bellisari completed 21-of-35 passes for
323 yards and two TDs. His nine-yard touchdown pass to Darnell Sanders
tied the game with less than three minutes to play. But after a
Cie Grant interception gave OSU the ball again, Bellisari was intercepted
by Sheldon Brown, who returned the ball 43 yards to the Buckeyes
29 with 23 seconds showing. That set up the game-winning kick.
OSU receiver Michael Jenkins had a monster game with eight catches
for 154 yards, but it wasnt enough.
