Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, Orange, Cotton — OSU has won them all

Gannett News Service

A bowl bid is supposed to be a celebration of a fine football season. While it has certainly been that at times for Ohio State, too often in recent years good will generated by a strong regular season has been reduced to ugly disappointment after a number of poor postseason performances.

The Buckeyes have compiled a 15-19 bowl record, including a 3-9 mark in their past 12 appearances. Ohio State has been to the Rose Bowl 13 of those 34 trips, going 6-7 in Pasadena.

A number of great Ohio State teams didn’t appear in bowl games. Until after the 1975 season, only a single Big Ten team was allowed to play in a bowl game — the champion in the Rose Bowl.
