2001: 5-6, 4-4 in the Big Ten (tie for 4th)
Coach: Gerry DiNardo, first season at IU
Returning starters: 13 (6 offense, 5 defense, 2 specialists)
Top returnees: QB Tommy Jones (18 com., 31 att., 58.1 pct.,
1 TD), WR Glenn Johnson (21 rec., 10.9 avg., 1 TD); SS Joe Gonzalez
(65 tackles)
Outlook: Its good DiNardo is the closest thing the
Big Ten has to a stand-up comic, because hes going to need
a sense of humor. The Hoosiers have only 69 players on scholarship,
20 of them freshmen. Flashy quarterback Antwaan Randle El is gone,
which adds to the bleak outlook for the Hoosiers.
Soundbite: Our offensive and defensive guys may have
to play on special teams, and we have to be a better conditioned
team, more so than perhaps if we had a full roster. I dont
know if there is an upside. We have to look at it as the glass is
half full. Gerry DiNardo
