2001: 5-7, 3-5 in the Big Ten (tie for 8th)
Coach: Barry Alvarez, 84-55-4 in 12 years at the school
Returning starters: 13 (8 offense, 3 defense, 2 specialists)
Top returnees: TB Anthony Davis (1,466 yd., 291 att., 5.0
avg., 11 TD); QB Brooks Bollinger (91 com., 177 att., 51.4 pct.,
1,257 yd., 6 TD, 4 int.); WR Lee Evans (75 rec., 1,545 yd., 20.6
avg., 9 TD)
Outlook: Two many question marks on defense outweigh the
exclamation points Davis, Evans and Bollinger (the Big Tens
most experienced quarterback) on offense. But the Badgers
will rebound from a rare bad season under Alvarez.
Soundbite: People talk about baseball teams being
strong up the middle and I think as a football team, were
strong up the middle. We may have our best offensive line returning.
We have five starters back from last year. I thought by the end
of the year they played extremely well. Barry Alvarez
